Hostess Falls to Unwavering Union- Who Exactly Did the Union Save Here?

Look folks, the purpose of a union is to achieve better standards, ethical treatment and fair wages. When the union, be it the bosses or the members as a whole, puts the jobs of every person employed by a company on the line over an 8% pay cut, knowing full well the company will fold if they don't work, its selfish and downright destructive. The situation was dire for all parties involved. We can argue all day about who caused the situation and how, but it doesn't matter. The bottom line is, things are the way they are. And now, because a union decided that more than 18,000 people losing their jobs was worth making a point, over 8% less money, an American icon is now gone. Who is better off now? The unions members that now have no jobs? The non-union workers now unemployed? The big bad mean evil business that's now out of business an employs no people? What "good" could possibly come from gambling on 18,000 jobs, when losing was guaranteed? If Hostess employees had taken their paychecks to a casino and put it all on double zero, and were then told that there was almost no chance of winning, and they STILL played the game, not a damn person would feel sorry for them when they lost everything. What happened to Hostess was worse. A sect of workers, led by their union bosses, gambled away ALL of the paychecks of ALL of the workers, and now more than 18,000 will suffer for it. When given the choice between a little less money and no money at all, common sense would tell you to go with the pay cut. For employees at Hostess, their union told them to choose no money at all. So I ask you, while acknowledging that the situation was bad for all sides, who exactly was the union looking out for? It obviously wasn't their members, because they've been Hung out to dry.
