I'm sitting outside of my first class of the day waiting for the class before mine to let out. Next door, there is some sort of English writing class and they have just finished watching a commercial that is persuading people to educate kids about sex rather than teach abstinence. I believe abstinence is the safest, surest way and the only full proof method for avoiding unwanted pregnancies and STD's. I also understand the logic behind sex education. Teenagers are going to have sex so they need to be educated. While I understand the reasoning, I would argue that if you do your job as a parent not only will you effectively show your child that abstinence is the way to go, but you will also be able ti give them the educational information they need without telling them to go out and have sex. Now to my point. School, especially college, is supposed to be about teaching people to think for themselves, right? Well, after pointing out to his class that this commercial was painting pre-marital sex in a virtuous light he proceeded to say the following: "...most people-well, conservatives- wouldn't call it virtuous, but come on it's the 21st century. We all know that teenagers are gonna have sex and the best thing to do is educate them about safe sex." "We all know" is what bothers me here. You are a teacher and you are supposed to be teaching me about all sides of things-even though it's a flippin writing class- yet you somehow feel it's ok the tell me that your opinion is everyone's opinion. This kind of "you can have whatever opinion you want, as long as it's my opinion" attitude has existed in colleges and universities for years, ever since the 60's hippies started teaching literature and art and theatre and philosophy. It's never talked about because liberals think that somehow they are right, right, right and everything else is wrong. I have to consider all sides but the dems only have to know their own side because they have all the knowledge. It's ridiculous. It's only going to get worse now that they have total control. Pay close attention to the people around you and listen for people praising liberal ideas and bashing all things conservative. It's more widespread than you think.
