Alright, this is gonna go kind of like my last Obama press conference response. I’m gonna do a rundown of the questions and respond to his answers. I’m gonna leave a couple questions out because I don’t feel they’re important to my particular purposes in this blog. Here we go:
1. Do we need to close the boarders in response to the swine flu?
He said that would be like “closing the barn door when the horses are already out.” To me that says we’ve already got sick people here so closing the boarder won’t help. That’s just plain dumb, because we need to contain this outbreak and continuing to let potentially sick people cross that boarder is not the way to do that.
2. What about Chrysler and GM?
He said “we want to get government out of the auto business as soon as possible.” Am I the only one who remembers his “only government” speech? Do you want the government to fix everything or do you want to back out? I think he’s realized that throwing government into all of these arenas was no solution at all. That’s why they want to get out of the auto business
3. Did the Bush administration sanction torture?
He never directly answered this question. He kept reiterating that he believes that water boarding is torture. He said taking short cuts corrodes a country’s character over time. The government giving you everything you want corrodes character as well, but that’s not important right? He also said we hold true to our values even when it’s not easy. Take out a book and read the words of Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Franklin and others and you will see that we have let go of the ideals this country was founded on and replaced them, and every time it has been because it got too “hard” to stick to our guns. What he means is that we will stick to the liberal ideals that we, the government, believe are right. But when they get hard they’ll be forgotten as well. Mark my words.
4. Have you read the documents released in which Dick Cheney defends the action of the Bush administration regarding torture?
He said he’s read the documents and has not seen at any point any information to make him second guess himself. Fair enough. He has the right to standby his decision and I can’t argue with that
5. Does large scale violence affect our new policy and pullout strategy in Iraq?
`In true Obama fashion, he made sure to acknowledge the fact that there have been bombings of late, but quickly went on the defensive by saying it’s not as bad as it was last year, meaning “it’s not as bad as when bush was in office.” He can’t simply say “we aren’t sure how the elevation in violence will affect our strategy,” and that’s because he’s afraid that if he admits pulling out may not be the best idea he’ll lose half the people that voted for him.
6. Specter’s switch, how big is it? What does it say of Rep Party?
He said that he thinks highly of specter, and that the switch will “liberate” him on issues like healthcare. As I’ve said, Specter was a RINO anyway so I could care less about him.
There were two other remarks in the answer to this question that I want to touch on
-He said that Congress is a coequal branch of government. So does that mean that he wants Congress to make decisions he should be making? Last time I checked we had three separate branches doing three separate jobs for a reason. Congress is not coequal with either of the other two branches. None of them are coequal, that’s what the Constitution says. Although, the Constitution doesn’t seem to be a concern of Obama’s anyway
-He said that he is a big believer that things are never as bad as they seem and they’re never as good as they seem. So then what is the point of endlessly repeating the phrase “worst economic crisis since the great depression,” especially since that’s not even a true statement? Just more proof that he uses fear to try to attempt to sway people’s opinions
7. You said you wanted to get the Freedom of Choice Act passed, and that the question of abortion was above your pay grade. Do you still want to get this bill passed?
He said abortion is an ethical choice, it’s not simply about a woman’s freedom, that women are in a better position to make the decision that Congress or he, that he wants to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies, and that the Act is not his highest legislative priority.
To me this is another flip flop. During the campaign he said he wanted the act, now he says it’s not so important and women are more equipped to make the decision. This illustrates that he wanted to get elected and didn’t care what he had to say to do it. He knew he had to keep all of the far left liberals on his side so he played up the Freedom of Choice Act and other items on the liberal agenda to keep them happy. I wish all of these people would stop doing what they think others might want them to do, and focus on doing what is right. All you have to do is read the constitution and the federalist papers and other founding documents and do what the founders would have done. But then people would have to work hard and quit relying on the government, and who wants to do that right?
8. What has surprised you troubled enchanted and humbled you about this office?
First of all, what kind of a BS softball question is this? He should’ve laughed at this guy and called on the next person.
He said he didn’t expect the number of problems coming at him at the same time, like, what else, the “worst economic crisis since the great depression.” Newsflash Obama, the president’s job ain’t all rhetoric and photo-ops. The rest were the same bland responses he regularly gives to these kinds of “how do you feel” questions.
9. Immigration plans?
We want to reach out and move forward. Need to show more thoughtful approaches than raiding a few workers.
I love how they tend to play these things as if any attempt we make to find and deport illegal immigrants is both illegal and immoral. We have laws for a reason. If you are not here legally you do not have a right to be here, bottom line. If you don’t have the stomach to send illegal immigrants home then get the hell out of the oval office.
10. Now we come to my favorite question of the night. A correspondent from Black Entertainment Television asked this question (not the exact quote but close): Given the unique and desperate circumstances for blacks, what specific policies will you implement to target these groups and what kind of time table can we expect?
Any idiot can see through this question. The man used fancy rhetoric to ask Obama when he is going to start helping black people. To my mind this was an absolutely inappropriate question that should have been ignored. However, Obama did answer it, saying that we want to help those in need and that those worst off will get help first. He also said blacks and Latinos are overrepresented in that sample, but when the economy stabilizes everyone will benefit. I have to admit this was a much better answer than I expected, though I still think he should have called the man out and refused to answer this set up question.
Other notes:
He said that our procedures on state secrets is overbroad and should be modified, because the while there are some cases in which national security will genuinely be at risk, but it should not be such a blunt tool.
I’m sorry, but I have no problem with the government holding onto sensitive national security information. I’d rather be safe than have information come out in a political argument or scandal or trial or what have you.
Finally my favorite quote of the night. Obama actually said “I don’t want to grow government, but the hand we were dealt didn’t work that way.”
Are you kidding me? You don’t want to grow government? If that’s not the biggest load of horse crap I’ve heard yet. If he didn’t want to expand government he wouldn’t have given an entire speech about how “only government” can solve all our problems. Everything he has done since he took office has demonstrated clearly that he intends to expand government. You can give me all the BS reasons for doing it that you want, but don’t stand there and lie to me about not wanting to do it. I can’t stand liars, especially those that lie to the American people.
All in all, this press conference was just like the ones before it, affirming his liberal agenda and providing more evidence of the gloom that lays ahead for our nation. But, I cannot stress enough that we have the power to keep our nation and restore the beliefs and values it was founded on. And we will do so, one way or another.
Stay Conservative, and keep looking Forward
