Why do progressives NEED God NOT to exist?

I was spending a lot of time trying to figure out why progressives in America seem to go so far above and beyond the normal "separation of church and state" when God comes up in any situation. I'm not an expert, but I think I've come up with an answer. It's not exactly rocket science, but it makes sense...

No God means no consequences in death. No consequences in death means no measure of morality is actually relevant. Philosophy is often described as 'cultivation of the soul'. Ethics and morality are codes of the souls that keep us in check. We use morality to guide us away from 'bad' and towards 'good'. Morality does for the soul what nutritional guides do for the body. Without a soul, there's no need for morality as long as you're OK with the ends justifying the means. Belief in the existence of a 'soul' is inherent to believing in God. If you eliminate God from the equation, it's much easier to justify the absence of objective morality and perpetuate subjective morality.  With enough effort, we can evade human, earthly consequences. If that is the only obstacle to unbridled free will, we can do anything we wish, to whomever we wish, with no fear of punishment. Some people, i.e. progressives, believe that THEY alone are the keepers of their fate. They believe that no one should be able to tell them what is right or wrong. These people believe the ends justify the means. That's fine and dandy and they're welcome to hold that sentiment. The problem is, most of us disagree. Most believe in some form of a 'soul'. Our societies laws are based in morality, and even in belief in God. One of the most basic tenants of civilized society is an opposition to murder.- 'Thou shall not kill'. We believe in treating people with respect and we believe in human rights. We believe in personal property rights, civil liberties, and freedom. All of these ideas are based in morality, and as I said, morality depends on the soul for survival. If traditional morality can be extinguished, it opens the flood gates, and anything and everything progressives want to do can become legal and accepted.

We don't have to insist on a Christian God in this case. The idea is that we believe in a higher power. We believe in the soul. We believe that when we die, more awaits us beyond this physical world. If it makes you feel better, think of God as nature, as life or as existence in general. The point is we believe there is more to being human than life on earth, and that drives our quest to be moral and righteous people. We believe that because our souls will continue to exist once our bodies have ceased to, we should endeavor to keep our souls in shape, the way we keep our bodies in shape for earthly, physical purposes. If we remove God from the equation, we remove the ultimate encouragement for morality, and the ultimate deterrent of immorality. We cripple the legitimacy of the soul, at least in the eyes of progressives. (just a quick note: Who is to say that this 'higher power' is neither fathomable nor provable according in scientific terms? It is entirely possible that at present,  we either lack the capacity in the human brain to scientifically conceive of God, or we simply haven't yet found the scientific tools or elements that can explain it in human conceivability. Science uses to say all materials that conduct heat contain "phlogiston," a substance that allowed for heat conduction. Science used to say a lot of things. It's not always perfect, though it is certainly one of our best tools for answering the questions of the universe. Another, is common sense).

Again, there will always be those who freely choose to go against the grain, or God in this case. But if we instill in people a sense of moral duty, and reinforce the notions of the soul and a Higher power, (some might call it "Humanness") whether it be God, or Nature or the Universe, then we reinforce the idea of a minimum standard of acceptable behavior. That minimum standard is what allows us to establish basic laws, acceptable business practices, human interaction protocols and so much more. If we lose God, it's a slippery slope to losing our traditional concept of morality. If that happens, then everything we believe in as Americans goes on the chopping block. Freedom, personal property, democracy, wealth, the right to life, the right to worship, the right to vote- everything gets put on the table of things that can be considered irrelevant and unnecessary, and even WRONG for society. So you see, if we get rid of God, it's suddenly much easier to justify anything we want to justify, no matter how reprehensible. Progressives can justify anything to THEMSELVES with no help, but if they can't justify it to OTHERS then they stand to be subjective to punishment for things they believe to be perfectly acceptable. Progressives need a majority of people to agree with them to escape what they fear in this world- consequences. As long as we maintain a moral code in our society, progressives are forced to give up some of their free will. We all are. Everyone has the FREE WILL to do anything they want. Morality and laws hinder that free will. As I said before, Progressives NEED to be in control. They NEED to have absolute free will. As long as society agrees that some constraints on free will are warranted, Progressives cannot do ANYTHING they want. So how do they get absolute free will? You have to change the law, by changing morality, by eliminating the soul (or mind or whatever label you want to assign to it) by eliminating the biggest proponent of the soul- GOD. In the brain of a Progressive, they have already decided that after death, there are no consequences. They want life to be the same way. That can't happen if the world agrees on a belief in a higher power or a soul. So, they NEED those things to disappear.

No God => No soul => No morality => No restrictions====> ABSOLUTE FREE WILL

Absolute free will may sound awesome, but it's not. It's actually counter to American principles. Absolute free will is Anarchy. The problem with Anarchy is that you can do whatever you want, to whomever you want, but so can everyone else. It's how humans existed in the state of nature. You can steal, you can wound and you can kill all you want, but you have to sleep sometime. That's exactly why we developed laws and rights. To protect society from absolute free will. I'm no expert in the philosophy of the mind. I will never claim to be. But I have studied the subject, and I have enough reason common sense to make certain observations that make sense to me, as I'm sure they do to others. To me, it seems inherently obvious that that our human consciousness, our minds or souls are somehow separate from our bodies. It just seems right to me that that element of humanity doesn't come from nothing, develop through hormones and electrical waves and then shut down when it stops getting oxygen. Although, for all I know that could be absolutely true. It just doesn't seem plausible to me. I've yet to see evidence that convinces me that the soul is a myth. But that's just me. You see, regardless of the reasoning, America is tied to a belief in the soul. We believe that we are unique among beings, at least on this earth, and we believe that this uniqueness is special and worth protecting. If we lose God, and the soul, American principles and values cannot survive. Our country cannot survive. Progressives know this, and they want this. They can't have unbridled free will as long as Americans stand together in defense of her principles. If they can break that sentiment by undermining or even disproving, in their terms, the existence of God and the souls, and by extension morality, then they can destroy what we have built, and recreate America in the manner they choose- absolute free will for those that agree with them, and oppression for all who would challenge them.

I'm just one man, with one brain, and one soul. I see what I see, and I call it like I see it. I could be wrong. But consider the consequences, or rather the lack thereof, if I'm right...

Stay Conservative and Keep Looking to the Future
